What is Shoni Shin?
Shonishin is a style of acupuncture developed in Japan over 250 years ago.
“Sho” means little;”
“Ni” means children,
“Shin” means needle.
The treatment is a series of specialised techniques using metallic instruments that are used to tap, stroke or press the skin. Needles are not inserted, it is therefore not uncomfortable or worrying for the child receiving it.Who has Acupuncture?
Central to Chinese Medicine is the concept of Qi (pronounced "chee"). This life giving energy maintains balance in the body. During ill health or if in pain, the flow of Qi can disrupted. Qi flows throughout the body in channels or meridians and collects at certain points in the body. These acu points are used to tap into and affect the flow of Qi.
The use of fine needles promotes movement of Qi, aiding health, relieving pain and promoting good health, naturally.
Although promoting good circulation of Qi is central to a Traditional Chinese Acupuncturist, recent medical research has begun to explore how the body experiences less pain after having acupuncture.
Who has Shoni Shin?
Shonishin can be practiced on all children right from birth to adolescence. When applied, it aims to re-balance the body’s meridian system, using the same acupuncture channels and acu-points found in adults.
Pulses and abdominal palpation help determine which channels are out of balance.
The gentle Shonishin tapping techniques restore the movement of blocked Qi. Once qi flows freely, the patient’s energy is strengthened and regulated and good health is restored.
Is treating children the same as treating adults?
When treating children, we respect that their qi system is delicate. Treatments are usually quick and quite light. Very few points are used and are usually worked with a special “needle” called a teishin, it presses acu-points, rather than goes into them.
